Tokyo decorates Streets for 2020 Olympic, Paralympic Games

It is four years until the next Olympic and Paralympic games but Tokyo have started preparations. The Japanese capital is decorating its downtown main streets as it braces up to host sports biggest fiesta in 2020.

An official ceremony was held on Tuesday in heavy rain triggered by an approaching typhoon, and was attended by former prime minister and Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Committee President, Yoshiro Mori.

Large white banners with logos of the Olympic and Paralympic games were hung on buildings in the city centre, while large murals of Japanese athletes were seen on window displays of malls.

Tokyo’s newly-elected governor Yoriko Koike has vowed to make the city’s 2020 Summer Games the “most innovative” in history.
