Child, man killed, scores injured in Johannesburg crash


A child and a man were killed while scores more - including school children - were injured when two cars collided in Johannesburg on Tuesday, paramedics said.

"Reports from the scene... indicate that those injured were hit by one of the vehicles involved in the collision while standing on the side walk," Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

The accident happened on Louis Botha Avenue near Corlett Drive.
It was not clear how many people were injured, but Mathe said it was "scores of people".
Two critically injured children were airlifted to hospital.
The exact cause of the accident was not known.
